The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) was founded by Lord Trenchard just one year after he founded the Royal Air Force. Every day since then, the charity has been there for the men and women who have defended Britain, its people and values, standing ready to support them in Service and civilian life.

And to do that, it has had to adapt. By funding new, innovative services, the charity now offers the right support at the right time to all members of the RAF family – from childhood right through to old age.

These new services include free relationship counselling through Relate for all serving personnel and a fast-track Benefits and Money Advice Service available at 50 Citizens Advice Bureaux in England and Wales. The charity has also recently committed to spend up to £10 million on a youth project to build sports grounds, regenerate existing play parks and fund paid, qualified youth workers at 20 RAF stations. This initiative closely follows an extensive £13 million programme to deliver childcare facilities at 27 RAF stations. These multi-million pound programmes are testament to the Fund’s on-going commitment towards enhancing the morale and wellbeing of serving personnel.

Alongside these new initiatives, the RAFBF continues to expand its existing services: the provision of mobility aids and specialist equipment for the sick and disabled; help with housing and accommodation; assistance in accessing and funding care, and individual grants to relieve specific financial need.

The RAFBF is committed to expanding and evolving its welfare services wherever a need is identified – continuing to reach out to more members of the RAF family and carrying on the great RAF tradition of always looking out for each other.
